We all know that insulation makes our homes more energy efficient. But even if you're lucky enough to have insulation in your home, you heating and cooling bills might be out of control.

If the cost to heat and cool your home is getting you down, don't worry. You can take control of your energy bills by air sealing and insulating your home. Beefing up the insulating power of your walls, floors and ceilings is well within your grasp if you're willing to get a little dirty.

Master the Basics of Insulation before you tear your home apartBefore you start tearing your house apart, you may want to poke around here and learn what insulation is, how much insulation you need and get familiar with the different types of insulation.

This part of my site is designed to answer the most common questions about insulation and saving money on your heating and cooling bills. Once you've mastered the basics of insulation, it's time to take a long, hard look at your home.

Often called a home energy audit, examining the different areas of your home will give you a clearer picture of your home's insulation and energy usage. You'll understand why you're losing money and be able to plan the insulation projects you need to keep your energy bills under control.

Then watch some of my how to videos to learn how to install the insulation and see if its something you're willing to do. Even if you're not willing to crawl through your attic or crawlspace, at least you'll know how to fix the problem so you can have an intelligent conversation with a contractor.
